Winter temperatures in Spiti Valley can drop below -20°C, so packing the right gear is essential for a safe and comfortable journey.
Carry a 50–60L backpack or duffel bag with a rain cover and a 15–20L day backpack for your daily essentials. Avoid hard suitcases, as backpacks are easier to manage during hotel and homestay transfers.
Pack multiple warm layers, including thermal wear, a heavy down jacket, fleece jacket, woollen sweaters, insulated gloves, woollen socks, a warm cap, muffler, and waterproof outerwear. Layering is the best way to stay comfortable in sub-zero temperatures.
Wear waterproof trekking shoes with good grip to walk safely on snow and icy roads. Carry 3–4 pairs of woollen socks and slippers for use at your accommodation.
Carry your regular medicines along with a basic first-aid kit, Diamox (only if prescribed), ORS, pain relievers, cold medicine, motion sickness tablets, and any personal prescription medication.
